In addition to providing descriptive information and documentation, this page is also a template for construction-structure pages of this site.  The template features depend on the use of Microsoft FrontPage for the development and maintenance of this material, and are only fully available when these web pages are accessed using Microsoft FrontPage.

1. Informal Template Usage - Summary

1.1 This page can be used as a boilerplate for a full page based on the default style for construction-structure pages of this site.  To facilitate that usage, the templates used to make this page are those for Construction Structure, not for Construction Material, even though this page is indeed Construction Material.  Only template folios can have such exceptions to the standard styles and formatting.

• 1.1.1 The construction structure includes the minimal scaffolding that is always present in folders and sob-folders of the web site.  The scaffolding includes an index.htm page (always) and an optional construction.htm in every folder. 

• 1.1.2 This template page is itself constructed using the applicable rules. 

• 1.1.3 Although the templates are designed for use of the Microsoft FrontPage automatic authoring-time inclusion and updating of material, these templates and their elements (especially those on this page) can also be used employing copy and paste from template pages to new construction-structure pages.

• 1.1.4 NOTE 1: While this use case was intended in the design of the current page, it is often easier, and preferable, to simply clone some existing index.htm and any desired construction.htm plus c000000.htm pages that are already at the correct distance from the root of the site and relative siblings/cousins of the new ones.

• 1.1.5 NOTE 2: Another way to make customizable boilerplate is by using Visual SourceSafe.  The new pages can be made by sharing existing pages (as in NOTE 1) or these templates.  After sharing, the new pages are branched for independent customization.  They will never be merged back.  This can also be done using source-code control systems that allow copying without sharing.  Either way, it will generally be necessary to perform FrontPage Tools | Recalculate Hyperlinks ... in order for the new copies (and any new subfolders) to show up in FrontPage.

1.2 If possible, use Visual SourceSafe to clone a page (1.1.5), since it will often require fewer corrections to be spliced into its new location.  Otherwise, in Microsoft FrontPage, make a new version of the page via copy and paste.  Either way, there will need to be review and alteration of hyperlinks to reflect the new requirements of the new location.  Make link adjustments while customizing the new page:

• 1.2.1 Use File | Properties ... to change the title of the page.  Verify that it is in UTF-8 also.
      

• 1.2.2 Change the title in the middle table block at the top of the page.
      

• 1.2.3 Change the "anchor block" in the right corner of the page top to provide the full context of the present page along with a version number and time stamp.  Relative links to the current and superior directories are used to make it easy to reuse the same URLs in clones of the pages and to work properly on mirrors of the site.
      

• 1.2.4 Keep the Hard Hat area image inclusion in the lower-left corner, delete it, or replace it as appropriate, depending on where the governing construction-zone is situated (see 2.2).
      

• 1.2.5 Keep the "You are ..." text in the middle block, supplement it, or replace it as appropriate.  This is where intellectual-property notices are also place.  Be careful to employ the appropriate notice and links for the page being constructed (see 2.3).
      

• 1.2.6 Update the creation information in the lower right section of the page-bottom banner.  After the first check-in of the page under source control, use the check-in date as the new creation date.
      

• 1.2.7 Delete this text section and the box at the top of this page, replacing it with your own page content.  If you cloned an existing construction-structure page, adjust its page body as required.
      

• 1.2.8 Introduce your own version history annotations, if desired.  Make sure the links in the history are as you want them to be.

1.3 The title block -- the table at page top -- can be copied by itself to produce a title block with the correct styles and the automatic inclusion of the correct left-section image for this site.  The right section, which provides the navigation path to the construction-structure page, must be customized.

1.4 The construction block -- the table at page bottom -- can be copied by itself to produce a construction block with the correct styles,  the automatic inclusion of the left-side Hard Hat image and link, and the "you are navigating ..." information in the center section of the block.  The right-side material will be updated automatically by Microsoft Visual Source Safe, but the "created ..." line must be updated manually.  The Hard Hat image link and title will have to be adjusted for the location of the page being customized. 

1.5 The body style -- the background, font, and link colorings, must be manually edited into the <body stylesrc="c000003e.htm"> tag with recent versions of FrontPage (e.g., 2003 and later).  Although the use of a private tag for this purpose is deprecated and styles should  be applied instead, we are preserving this practice for use with older versions of Internet Explorer.  (The current Construction Structure does not depend on CSS in any manner.)

2. FrontPage "Include Page" Components

These features are not visible on the published versions of these web pages.  The effect of the components will be present, but the components themselves are not on the published pages.   The components only appear with access of the pages by Microsoft FrontPage.

3. FrontPage Style Inclusion 

The FrontPage Style inclusion used for this and other Construction Structure pages is in page c000003e.htm.  That page describes how the background and basic styles are set on that page and how they are used from other pages.  If manual editing is required, use <body stylesrc="c000003e.htm"> with the proper path to the style source.

Customize the earlier description in the ODMA.info /construction section as the descriptive page in the ODMdev Construction template folder.  This construction section and templates are designed for mirroring onto a hard drive for use as a base for confirmation tests, experiments, and development of derivative materials.  Expanded detail will be provided in construction documentation folios.  The current development state of the present material is accounted for in a separate diary & job jar page.
